portraiture and performance

About

I originally got involved in photography nearly 30 years ago. Self-taught, I spent a brief time in studios and dark rooms grounding myself in some of the key basic principles before other commitments left me little time to persue it any further until a couple of years ago. The advent of the digital SLR has been a breath of fresh air and something I have been happy to embrace – there are certainly more pros than cons to this new format, especially in terms of accessibility, economy, independence and the ease of creativity and promotion of one’s material.

In terms of subject matter, my primary interests lie in both portraiture and figure, as in the arts and performance (including sports). And my aim is to highlight or showcase the character, beauty, grace, power and emotion of the sitter/performer or performance – particularly in the way they themselves want to be portrayed.

And as it’s still a learning curve, (and I suspect always will be…) every shoot of this kind is a challenge! So I always welcome collaborative endeavours too if the idea is mutually attractive….!
